Most modern vehicles contain an on-board computer called an Engine Control Unit(ECU) which monitors the performance of your vehicle. There are many sensors positioned around your vehicle which pick up any changes that occur with your vehicle. These are reported back to the ECU, an error code is generated and a warning light is often lit to notify the driver of an issue.

Diagnostics Machine

As there are hundreds of different error codes for each vehicle a diagnostics machine is required to read the codes and inform you of the exact problem. Once the fault is rectified the diagnostics machine is also required to remove the warning from the ECU memory, to enable the warning light to be turned off.
